VBAS IN NEED OF YOUR HELP

Posted on September 7, 2012 by BWT

By Mr. Roger Haburey

On Tuesday September 18th, all registered voters statewide are being summoned to the polls for a vote on a Constitutional referendum.  It would allow the Governor to transfer, $145.8 million dollars per year for the next 3 years, a total of $437.4 million dollars,  from the Alabama Trust Fund to the General Fund.  If this referendum passes, we move forward with efforts to keep pace with the normal day-to-day operations of Vivian B Adams School without a need to make painful and drastic cuts.

In the case of a “NO” vote, Governor Bentley could call the Legislature into special session to adjust current cuts or consider new revenue.  The alternative could be a call for a proration of 17% or more in across-the-board cuts.  Either of these would be expected to have a large impact on us.

Please research the issue and vote your convictions as you see fit, taking into account the beneficiaries who may very well lose all or part of their provided services, including what is provided for them here at VBA.  Specific among the issues at stake in this special referendum are the state mental health and Medicaid funding.

YES vote is our best chance to continue our programs and support as they currently exist.

Voting on the 18th will be at regular voting sites from 7:00AM to 7:00PM and is open to all voters.

Thank you for your support!!!
