Since the early 1960’s, the Heart of Dixie Coon Hunters Association has pursued the sport of coon hunting for pleasure. On Saturday, March 11th, this second and third generation of hunters leveraged their love of the sport into a community event. Under the leadership of President, Eddy Parker, Vice-President, Stacy Ford, Secretary-Treasurer, Jimmy Bond, and Hunt Director, Wes Strickland, Hounds Hunting with Heart, raised over $17,000. This money will support Vivian B. Adams School by providing scholarship aid for developmentally disabled individuals “aging” out of school programs. The scholarship funds allow students to continue to be served by Adams School while on the Medicaid Waiver Waiting List. Currently, over 3,000 people are on the Alabama Medicaid Waiver Waiting List.
Hounds Hunting with Heart, was held at the Dale County Ag Plex Arena. Over 100 spectators enjoyed the “Join the Pack” dog show, allowing individuals from Adams School and local children to “show” dogs for ribbons and trophies.
The night’s events included a live auction conducted by auctioneer, Johnny Lee, of Headland, selling a wide variety of donated items including a set of Michelin Tires, party baskets, and cakes from local bakers.
Dale County Cattlemen’s Association and caterer, Roger Scott provided concessions for the evening. Proceeds from the sale of hotdogs, hamburgers, and pork chop sandwiches were donated to Adams School.
What a great night !! Thank you to our friends with the Heart of Dixie Coon Hunters Association!
