Over 3, 000 deserving individuals are on the state Medicaid waiting list

for services at facilities like Vivian B. Adams School.

The Friends of Vivian B. Adams School

is dedicated to providing tuition funding

for individuals in Barbour, Coffee, Dale, Henry, Houston, and Pike Counties.

The realization that individuals on the state Medicaid waiting list included his friends and neighbors moved Chuck Auman to action. In memory of his late wife, Pat, Chuck donated the seed money to begin the Pat Auman Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is designed to enable students aging out of school age programs at Vivian B. Adams School to remain in school as they await Medicaid funding to provide special needs services.

A resident of Ozark since 1982, Chuck moved to the area with his family continuing his civil service career at Fort Rucker. For his wife, Pat, coming to Ozark was a “coming home” of sorts, as she was related to the Parker family of Dale County. Pat’s work as a tax preparer gave her insight to the many needs in her community, as well as introducing her to the giving spirit so prevalent among the citizens of Ozark. Pat’s generous spirit was readily displayed in her community and church involvement. She was a member of the Friends of the Library, serving as president and initiating the Book Sale Room. Pat was a bridge player, a member of the Literary Club, a Master Gardner, and dedicated herself to serving many roles in her church, the First United Methodist Church of Ozark. Pat and Chuck were married for over 50 years; after her passing in April, 2008, Chuck has remained dedicated to the community service they performed .

Chuck continues to play a vital role in Ozark’s annual “Make A Difference Day”, an event he and Pat were instrumental in starting. He is founder and charter member of the Dale County Genealogical and Historical Society. Chuck is active with the Friends of the Library, Master Gardeners, and the First United Methodist Church of Ozark. Currently, he serves on the board of the Dale County Council on Arts and Humanities.

When asked what moves him to serve, Chuck easily replies his initiative is faith based. In Matthew 25:40, Jesus reminds us that when we do unto others, we do unto Him.

The Friends of Vivian B. Adams School is grateful to Chuck Auman for his heart for those in need. It takes approximately $1200.00 monthly to provide tuition for a student at Adams School. We are diligently working to provide for those individuals unable to provide for themselves.   We currently have three major fund raising projects to help fund scholarships. Our first annual “White Tent Event” Yard Sale will be Friday, August 14th at 7:00am in the green space across from the Ozark City Hall. We will also have our annual Claybank 5K Run and Fun Run on Saturday, October 3rd, and we will be soliciting Friends memberships beginning in March, 2016 as a part of special needs awareness month.

Doing Our Part

IMG_0172The LEA Department at VBAS has a “pet” project….not only do they work diligently everyday on their “school skills”, they also work on their “giving back skills.”

This hardworking group collects aluminum cans to raise money for their class outings, but more importantly they collect the tabs from aluminum cans to donate to the Ronald McDonald House in Mobile.

Thanks to these guys for their heart for others !!
